With the Information Technology Act, the UN resolution will be put into effect and government services will be delivered more efficiently through the use of reliable electronic records. According to the preamble of the Act, it is intended (a) to provide legal recognition for transactions carried out through electronic data interchange and other electronic communication, commonly referred to as "electronic commerce," which involves the use of alternatives to paper-based methods of communication and information storage, and (b) to facilitate the filing of electronic documents with government agencies.
